This class is a unique fusion of two ancient practices: serpentine dance and yoga. The serpentine dance is a fluid, sinuous dance style that originated in the late 19th century and is characterized by graceful, undulating movements of the body. Yoga, on the other hand, is a holistic practice that encompasses physical postures, breath work, and meditation to promote overall health and well-being.
In this class, participants will learn and practice the basics of both serpentine dance and yoga, and will then combine the two practices to create a dynamic and flowing movement experience. The class will begin with a gentle yoga warm-up, including breath work and stretching to prepare the body for movement. Participants will then learn a series of basic serpentine dance movements, such as hip circles, figure eights, and undulations, which will be incorporated into a flowing dance sequence.
Throughout the class, participants will be encouraged to move with intention and awareness, connecting their breath to their movements and exploring the fluidity of their bodies. The fusion of serpentine dance and yoga creates a unique opportunity to explore movement in a way that is both meditative and expressive, allowing participants to tap into their inner creativity and embody a sense of grace and fluidity.
The class will end with a short relaxation and meditation, allowing participants to integrate their practice and leave feeling grounded, centered, and rejuvenated.
